About this exam
The Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examination is conducted annually by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit Class 12 pass candidates for Group C non-gazetted posts including Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant, and Data Entry Operator (DEO) / DEO Grade A across central government ministries and departments. Selection runs in two tiers: Tier 1, a computer-based objective test covering General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English, used for shortlisting; and Tier 2, a more comprehensive computer-based exam (mathematical ability, reasoning, English, general awareness, plus a module for DEO-specific roles) followed by a skill test (typing speed) for DEO posts or a typing test for other posts. Final selection is merit-cum-preference based on Tier 2 performance.
