How does this tool remove the background — is it AI-based?

Accepted Answer

No AI or external model is used. It works in two modes: Auto, which flood-fills inward from the four corners using the averaged corner colour (best for solid studio backgrounds), or Pick, where you manually select a background colour to remove (best for chroma-key blue/green screens or other flat-colour backgrounds). Both run entirely with Canvas API pixel processing in your browser.

No — there is no upload and no external ML server involved. All processing happens locally in your browser.

What kind of photos work best with this tool?

Accepted Answer

Photos with a solid, even background — like typical studio passport/ID shots — work best with Auto mode. Busy or uneven backgrounds are harder for flood-fill to separate cleanly and may need the Pick mode with a carefully chosen colour, or some manual touch-up afterward.
